Is this the new Unbound XL of Europe?
What is the Traka Adventure?
One of Europe's biggest gravel races The Traka has a new longer format of 560 km called the Traka Adventure.
In the spring of 2024, I embarked on a personal adventure, which unfortunately met its end due to unforeseen weather conditions. Though I missed the chance to compete, I seized the opportunity to delve into the rugged beauty of Girona's gravel routes.
Preparation and Equipment
Equipped with my trusty Fara F/Gravel Bike, customized with a Fara modular cockpit and outfitted with Fulcrum Wheels Rapid Red Carbon and Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M 45mm tires, I was ready to tackle whatever terrain lay ahead.
Muddy conditions called for extra precautions, so I made sure to pack Asssavers and relied on my Apidura Top Tube Pack and Tool Pack, alongside the Faracycling Frame Bag, to carry all essentials.
Illumination came courtesy of the Supernova Airstream light, ensuring visibility even in dimly lit areas. And for those moments when aerodynamics mattered, I had my Controltech Sirocco clip-on aerobars at the ready.

Exploring the Terrain
My journey began with a recon ride along part of the original Traka 560 race course. The terrain, though muddy at times, revealed itself to be predominantly smooth gravel, punctuated by occasional technical sections. A steep climb early on provided a challenging start, perfectly setting the tone for the adventure ahead. The course offered a mix of gravel and tarmac sections, promising both speed and technical challenges along the way.
Race Day
While the Traka 560 race may have been canceled, my own adventure was just beginning. With no time constraints looming over me, I set out to explore the gravel routes of Girona at my own pace. The absence of competition allowed me to immerse myself fully in the experience, taking in the sights and sounds of the Catalan countryside.
Post-Adventure Reflections
As I packed away my gear and prepared to return home, I carried with me a newfound appreciation for the beauty of Girona's gravel routes and a sense of gratitude for the opportunity to embark on this adventure. While the Traka 560 race may have been postponed, my own journey had just begun, fueled by a passion for exploration and a love for the open road.
